Labour’s candidate to be the next Mayor of Greater Manchester Bev Craig heard directly from students on Tuesday about what they wanted for the next chapter of their city region.
Bev headed to Oldham College to take questions from a group of over 50 students, with topics ranging from homelessness and social housing to council budgets and social care.
She also told them about the support she would give young people across Greater Manchester if she became Mayor – including extending free bus travel across the Bee Network by giving an ‘Our Pass’ to every 11 to 18-year-old.
Bev made the promise at her campaign launch alongside Andy Burnham as she promised to put more money in the pockets of hard-working families and give all young people the chance to access study, work and everything Greater Manchester has to offer.
Ahead of visiting the college, Bev also went to Oldham Bus Station to talk to passengers about how she planned to build on the success of the Bee Network, looking at bringing back bus routes and extending the tram.
Bev said: “The students at Oldham College and the people of this town care deeply about its future and the future of Greater Manchester. So do I.
“I am determined to deliver for them and for young people across our city region, whether that be through putting more money in their pockets with the extension of ‘Our Pass’, creating more job opportunities on their doorsteps or reviving their town centres to bring back that sense of pride in where they come from.
“It was great to hear from these students and I can’t wait to hear even more from young people across Greater Manchester in this campaign.”
