Who is Bev Craig?
Bev Craig is the Labour Leader of Manchester City Council and standing to be Mayor of Greater Manchester on the 30th of July.
Growing up on a council estate, Bev came to Manchester at 18 and worked her way up. She didn’t have money or connections – and it was Greater Manchester that gave her the opportunities that transformed her life.
After leading record growth as Leader of Manchester City Council, she’s determined that everyone has access to the same opportunities that Greater Manchester gave her.
Why is Bev Craig running for Mayor?
Bev Craig is running for Mayor of Greater Manchester because she wants to bring the ten boroughs together and make sure every community shares in our success.
After years of working directly alongside Andy Burnham to deliver good growth for all of Greater Manchester, she’s ready to build upon the work she has already done.
Bev is running to deliver good growth, new opportunities, better housing, and more connected transport – for us.

Bev has said:
“I will work every day for us to make sure everyone shares in the success Greater Manchester is building — making sure there’s more money in people’s pockets, pride in every town centre with a New High Streets Fund, a new generation of council and affordable homes and an expanded Bee Network that freezes fares and that works for all of us.”
Does Bev Craig have the experience to be Mayor?
Yes. Since December 2021, Bev has run Manchester City Council, one of the biggest jobs in local government in the country, and is widely recognised as one of the most successful local leaders in the country.
Under her leadership Manchester has experienced unparalleled growth and seen new jobs and opportunities delivered for people all across Greater Manchester.
And she’s represented Greater Manchester abroad, standing side by side with Andy Burnham while working to secure investment that delivers for all of our city-region.
